Technical Communication

The Technical Communication course emphasizes communicating effectively across a variety of formal and informal professional contexts. The course focuses on the student’s ability to evaluate their writing situation and deliver a clear and appropriate document, one that adheres to the norms of the selected genre and that is adapted to meet the needs of the client or audience. Students who successfully complete the Technical Communication course in Achieve have demonstrated: • Understanding of principles of business/technical communication, including the ability to create reader-centered documents, communicate clearly and concisely, demonstrate skills in collaboration, and present information ethically and legally • Ability to write and design business/technical documents and other forms of communication, including planning, writing, designing, and testing documents • Ability to apply specific genres/applications appropriate to industries, careers, or technical fields, including proposals, reports, business correspondence, oral presentations, resumes and cover letters, and instructions • Primary and secondary research skills to address workplace questions • Recognition of the relevance of business/technical communication to real-world situations, including understanding ethical responsibilities, demonstrating awareness of cultural considerations, solving real-world problems through communication, and engaging with a community
